Loud techno remixes laced with clever transitions and beats interspersed played among the flashing coloured lights and crowded room. I stood there amongst the sweat and other body fluids, unimpressed and jaded. i was dragged here by a friend after work and was regretting it, but little did i know, that my night was just beggining. it was 1am in butter factory and i wanted to leave, crossing my arms as people pushed to get pass me, twisting and turning amidst all the chaos. guys trying to get with girls, girls pretending they don't want it. I turned and locked eyes with a girl, she had been looking at me, disco lights bounced off her big brown eyes as they looked directly into mine, suddenly it felt as though we existed in a moment outside of this noise and thrashy techno music, outside all the sleazy groping and exchange of bodily fluid. But that wasnt all, she had the same expression as me, the expression that says "save me!" she turned shouted something inaudible to her friend and pointed at me. afterwhich she proceeded to grab my hand and pull me out, she mouthed to her friend "i'm going home" to which her friend passed a judgemental look upon me and said "look after her" with that she pulled me out of the club.
"sorry, made use of you, just wanted to get outta there" she smiled as she let go of my hand, still a little flustered, i manage to utter "sure, no problem." As we walked towards the taxi stands, we got into the first one and debated over who should drop off first, so much that the cab uncle got irritated. Finally she resigned and told the uncle her address.
"so you let a stranger drag you out of a club and you're now going with her to an unkown location" She leaned back and looked at me
"well should i be worried?" i replied, struggling to think of something smart to say. This continued for a while, basic exchange of backgrounds, until we reached her place. where we both alighted.
"shall we go somwhere?" she saidas we walked to her door, "wait here kay?" she gave me a smile and a wink before disapearing into her house and emerging awhile later.
"so where do you go when you wanna be spontaneous?" she asked
I couldnt think of anything to say, She spoke again "you're quiet aren't you?" to which my response was even more silence.
" so.... why me?" i finally asked
"you looked harmless" She replied "plus you looked kinda cute stoning there"
"dint your mum tell you not to talk to strangers?"
"i'm a big girl i can take care of myself"
we ended up walking in mt faber park somehow holding hands and looking at the view, a few more exchange of flirtatious remarks and background info. Fending of lizards for her etc etc until finally it was almost 5 am and we had to part ways. "so is this the part where you give me your number?" i asked, after which she did and i said "you dont even know my name do you?"
"no, do you know mine?"
"no"
she leaned forward and planted a kiss on my cheeks and slowly moved to nibble my ear and whispered "Joanna"
"mmm... i'll remeber that"
"you'd better" as she pulled away "well today just got a little more intresting"
"hmm?"
"cause of you... i dont usually pick up strangers in a club you know?"
"really? you seem pretty confident"
"really, its been awhile since i last dated..." she gave me another kiss before i watched her leave.
"good night Joanna" as i turned and went my way.
Well, my life just took a sharp turn...
